The contract: what this ad says, and what to ask

The ad does not say. Ask the recruiter:

  1. Pay model. Base salary, wRVU rate and threshold, or collections percentage? What did year-2 doctors actually earn?
  2. Call. Call ratio, weekends, GI bleed call, and is advanced (ERCP) call separate?
  3. Partnership. Years to partner, buy-in amount, and what you buy: ASC units, ancillaries, or a title without equity?
  4. Schedule. Endoscopy days versus clinic half-days per week, and how many hospitals you cover.
  5. Advanced procedures. How many ERCPs and EUS a year would a new hire actually get?
  6. APP and staff support. How many APPs, nurses, and schedulers per physician?
  7. Malpractice. Occurrence or claims-made, and who pays for tail coverage if you leave?
  8. Noncompete. Radius in miles and length in months, and does it apply if they end your contract?
  9. Visa. Who files the petition, are they cap-exempt, and have they placed a Conrad 30 J-1 physician before?
