Valley Health System (VHS) in affiliation with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) is seeking an accomplished and visionary Founding Gastroenterology Fellowship Program Director to lead the development of Gastroenterology Fellowship Program.
Position Overview
The Program Director will serve as the architect and leader of this new fellowship, guiding all aspects of program creation, implementation, and accreditation. This role includes developing a curriculum aligned with ACGME requirements, overseeing the accreditation process, and ensuring the program delivers comprehensive, high-quality training that prepares fellows to excel in the field of Gastroenterology.
The Program Director will collaborate closely with the DIO, GME Director, Division Director, Chair, faculty, staff, and external partners to build a program rooted in educational excellence, innovation and clinical rigor. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical and leadership skills, a proven track record of academic achievement and in-depth knowledge of ACGME policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and oversee the new Gastroenterology Fellowship Program
- Lead the ACGME accreditation process and ensure ongoing compliance
- Develop a rigorous curriculum that fosters clinical excellence, scholarly activity, and professional growth
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate fellows and faculty
- Collaborate with institutional leadership and external partners to advance program goals
- Promote a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and patient-centered care
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range of $507,000 - $530,000

Qualifications
- MD or DO degree and current board certification in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine or by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, or subspecialty qualifications that are acceptable to the Review Committee
- Current medical licensure and appropriate medical staff appointment.
- The program director must have administrative experience and at least three years of participation as an active faculty member in an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency or Gastroenterology fellowship and minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a Gastroenterologist.
- Ongoing clinical activity and ongoing academic achievements in Gastroenterology, including but not limited to publications, the development of educational programs, or the conduct of research.
- Must have or be eligible for State of New Jersey medical licensure.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
